September is one of the best stretches of the year to get offshore from Gulfport. An offshore fall trip still puts you on red snapper and red grouper. This month, gag grouper and greater amberjack are open as well. That mix does not last all year, and you do not need your own boat to take advantage of it.

Summer snapper trips are familiar around Tampa Bay. Fall is when the menu gets wider.

On a federally permitted charter like Scotty J’s, red snapper stay in play through much of October when regulations allow. Red grouper remain a solid bottom-fish option. Gag grouper harvest in Gulf waters is open for September. Greater amberjack also opens in early September for a short window.

That is four quality species you can legally target on the same kind of trip. Seasons and bag limits can change, so we follow current FWC grouper rules and federal for-hire dates before every outing.

We run a 2022 30-foot Sea Hunt Gamefish out of Gulfport Municipal Marina. Twin 300s get you to the grounds without a long, rough slog. Garmin electronics, live wells, iceboxes, and a private head keep the day comfortable for up to six people.

Depending on weather and trip length, we fish nearshore structure or push 10 to 40-plus miles into the Gulf. Some days we anchor or drift over hard bottom for snapper and grouper. Other days we work wrecks and reefs where amberjack like to stack up. You fish. We run the boat, bait the rods, and keep you on productive water.
